30 May 2007 - Quality classrooms will help pupils - Ruane

Education Minister Caitríona Ruane officially opened a school extension during the 80th anniversary celebrations at St Patrick’s Primary School, Mayobridge.

A two classroom stand alone extension has been built at St Patrick’s Primary School replacing two temporary classrooms. The extension will also have new toilet facilities and a special needs room.

Speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony, the Minister said: “It is a pleasure to see the direct results of funding that is being used for new school buildings. These new facilities will enhance the learning environment of the pupils and will be reflected in their work.

“It is appropriate that this is the 80th year of the school. If we continue to invest in the maintenance of the school it can attract pupils for another 80 years.

“School buildings are one of the issues I want to examine across the north. There are many children being schooled in dilapidated buildings which are in desperate need of refurbishment. This will be one of my priorities in my administration. Bright and stimulating classrooms will assist in the nurture of confident, creative and articulate children."
