The minister recently met with political and non-political members of the board and has described the discussions as constructive. Those present at the meetings indicated their desire to see the board reinstated.
The minister said: “I believe there is a strong case for reinstatement of the board but first there are a number of preliminary steps. Members have expressed a need for a full briefing on the current state of the board’s finances and other significant issues as well as an update on Corporate Governance requirements.
“I will also be asking for recognition from members that the future work of the board will be characterised by courtesy, mutual respect and uphold principles of equality and they will respect their statutory duties. I believe this is essential to ensure the smooth running of meetings.
“If I am satisfied on the issues of concern my objective will be to restore the board in June.”
