08 May 2009 - Minister announces the closure of Suffolk Primary School

Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane, has approved a Development Proposal to allow for the cessation of educational provision at Suffolk Primary School with effect from 31 August 2009.

Commenting on the decision, Ms Ruane said: “The school, which opened in the 1950s, has served the Suffolk and Black’s Road community for many years. However, demographic changes have led to declining enrolments and concerns about the school’s continued sustainability.

“It is never an easy decision to agree to the closure of any school, but I am confident that my decision is in the best educational interests of the pupils currently attending the school. I would like to pay tribute to the staff at the school and to thank them for their dedication and commitment over the years.

“I send best wishes to the children of Suffolk PS for the future"
