15 May 2009 - Minister approves integrated status for Parkhall College

Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane, has given conditional approval to a Development Proposal to allow for the transformation of Parkhall College to controlled integrated status.

Commenting on her decision the Minister said: “Parkhall College is well placed to achieve a successful transformation to integrated status. The Board of Governors and the staff are fully committed to the transformation plan and are keen to implement it as soon as possible. I give the school approval to transform to controlled integrated status on the condition that it meets the department’s intake requirements. I wish all concerned well for the future.”

Notes to Editors:

1. The North Eastern Education and Library Board (SELB) published Development Proposal No 243 on 28 October 2008, proposing the acquisition of controlled integrated status for Parkhall College with effect from 1 September 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.

2. Parkhall College currently operates on a split site on Steeple Road and at the former Massereene College site at Birch Hill, Antrim and is in line for capital investment for a replacement school.

3. Progress against the Transformation Plan will be monitored by the Department of Education.
