07 November 2008 - Unions show Educationalists reject selection - Ruane

Education Minister, Caitríona Ruane, has said that the call from the unions for the ending of academic selection shows the true view of educationalists.

The Minister said: ”This call for the ending of academic selection from the NI Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and other affiliated unions shows the true view of educationalists. Unions representing teachers in schools right across the North see every day how the current system fails children. This is in stark contrast to the small number of people refusing to recognise the need for change. People who are more interested in preserving institutions than doing what is right for all children.

“I welcome this call from the unions and reaffirm my commitment to continue my work to bring about much needed reform in education.”
