The Minister agreed in July that she would regularly meet with the chairpersons of the RPA affected groups to update them of the developments in the biggest change to education in the North of Ireland for thirty years.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister updated the chairpersons on RPA legislation. She said: “There have been three very productive sessions with the Assembly Education Committee on the underlying education policies, with a fourth committee meeting planned for 26 October. We aim to complete our engagement with the Education Committee and submit a draft first bill to the Committee for their initial view soon after.”
Speaking about the Convergence Programme which will transfer certain limited responsibilities from the Department to the Education and Skills Authority, the Minister said: “The Convergence Programme presents a real opportunity for key stakeholders in the education sector to be involved in shaping the new organisation, of which they will be a key part. Their participation and engagement is essential.
“The Education and Skills Authority implementation team is continuing to develop close working relationships with colleagues in the affected organisations to ensure they can make a positive contribution to the new organisation in a way that supports business continuity during the transition period.
“I am convinced that the RPA is the means to facilitate my vision of an education service in the North of Ireland that will value every child and will provide world class education opportunities for all.”
