Comber Trader fined for selling counterfeit car accessories
Monday, 11 August 2008A Comber Trader who was selling counterfeit car accessories was today fined a total of £2,000 at Newtownards Magistrates Court
In a case brought by the Trading Standards Service of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Mr Clive Jardine, who traded as Autospares of Comber, pleaded guilty to 10 charges brought under the Trade Marks Act 1994.
In August 2007, Trading Standards Officers went to Mr Jardine’s premises at Mill Street, Comber, where they found the counterfeit car accessories on sale.
Mr Jardine had imported the counterfeit car accessories from China and offered them for sale in his family business.
Nicholas Lane from the Trading Standards Service said: “Mr Jardine was selling these accessories without making reasonable checks to ascertain whether or not the items were the genuine product.
“Those businesses trading in authentic merchandise are being adversely affected by the trade in counterfeit goods.“
