05 March 2008 - Dodds announces consultation on DETI corporate plan

Economy Minister Nigel Dodds has announced a consultation on the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment’s (DETI) draft Corporate Plan, 2008-2011.

The Minister is asking stakeholders involved in strengthening the Northern Ireland economy to comment on the Plan. Mr Dodds said: “The DETI draft Corporate Plan sets out the strategic direction for the Department for the next three years and in particular how the work of the Department will contribute towards achieving the key economic goals in the Programme for Government (PfG).

“DETI’s Corporate Plan identifies three priority areas for investment and growth over the lifetime of the plan. Improving manufacturing and private services productivity is the top priority. The Plan also has ambitious targets for increasing employment and the contribution tourism makes to the economy.

“The draft Corporate Plan is built around DETI’s Public Service Agreements which include actions and targets shared across a number of Northern Ireland Government Departments, including areas such as skills, transport and the environment.”

In addition to this Plan, each of the Department’s Non Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs) - (Invest NI, Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland and General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland) and its sponsored bodies (InterTradeIreland and Tourism Ireland Ltd) will produce their own, more specific, Corporate Plans covering the period 2008-2011. DETI’s Plan is designed to be read in conjunction with these documents.

Mr Dodds concluded: “The Northern Ireland Executive has made the economy the top priority in the Programme for Government. DETI together with its NDPBs, has therefore a lead responsibility to deliver on a range of strategic and ambitious economic goals. However, growing a dynamic, innovative economy is a challenge for all stakeholders, including those within the public and private sectors.

“I want to encourage economy stakeholders to work with my Department and together we can help shape the future direction of economic development in Northern Ireland.”
