10 March 2008 - Dodds delivers local business message to the US

Economy Minister Nigel Dodds is travelling to the USA this week to encourage participation in the US/NI Investment Conference.

The Minister will be engaging in business meetings and media interviews in Washington and New York, from 12 to 14 March. Mr Dodds will be attending a business breakfast reception where the Chairman of Microsoft, Mr Bill Gates, will give a keynote speech.

The Minister will then travel to New York to be interviewed on CNBC's morning business programme, 'Squawk on the Street'. This will be aired live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Friday 14 March.

The Minister said: “This is an excellent platform to inform a targeted business audience that 'Northern Ireland is open for business.’ The US/NI Investment conference on 7 to 9 May is an ideal opportunity for top US companies to see at first hand what Northern Ireland has to offer."

CNBC is the recognised world leader in business news and provides information to more than 340 million homes worldwide, including more than 95 million households in the USA and Canada.

Recognising the support and contribution of the US administration and business leaders, Mr Dodds said: “The US administration and many US organisations and individuals played an important part in helping Northern Ireland reach its current stable state. Government is now building on those relationships to ensure that it delivers a peaceful, fair and prosperous society for all.

“May’s conference represents an opportunity to assist the Northern Ireland Government’s key goal of growing the local economy. It can also promote the development of mutually beneficial links with the US administration and key business decision makers.

“The Executive is committed to building a vibrant, dynamic and outward looking economy and is determined to seize the unique opportunity in May, to help deliver a better future for all.”
