The map has been designed with the outdoor enthusiast in mind and will further support tourism in the area by providing visitors with information on nature reserves, National Trust properties and Country Parks. The map also details a host of tourist activities including bird watching, canoeing, scuba diving, cycle trails and golf.
Speaking at the launch, the minister said: “Strangford Lough is renowned for its spectacular scenery and the launch of this map will be another tool in helping build Northern Ireland’s tourism industry.
“The map encourages visitors to take part in the many exciting activities this area has on offer.”
The new map shows the entire length of Strangford Lough at a scale of 1:25,000, (4cms to 1Km) on one side while the reverse has detailed maps of Newtownards, Castleward, Mount Stewart and Delamont and Scrabo Country Parks.
And one very important quality for a map of Northern Ireland is – it's waterproof!
The Strangford Lough Activity Map is part of a series of maps produced by Land and Property Services under the banner ‘Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland’.
Other maps in the series are The Mournes, The Sperrins, Glens of Antrim and Lough Erne. All activity maps can be purchased from any good bookstore, outdoor activity shop or on line at www.osni.gov.uk
