23 December 2008 - The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety announces settlement with Ranbaxy

The Department of Health and Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland has agreed settlement of their civil claims against another major pharmaceutical company for alleged anti-competitive conduct between 1996 and 2000 in connection with the supply of generic drugs.

Ranbaxy has agreed, on a full and final basis and without admission of liability, to pay £352,500 in compensation.

Minister for Health, Michael McGimpsey said: “I am very pleased that Ranbaxy has settled with us by paying the Department the sum of £352,500. This is another of the defendant companies that has decided to settle, bringing the total amount recovered to over £2million. The money recovered will be used to support the delivery of front line patient services.”
