Theft of medicines: conviction of Dr William Farrell
Monday, 21 December 2009At Newry Crown Court today, Dr William Farrell (52) from Bridge Street, Rostrevor, Co Down, was sentenced to three months imprisonment suspended for 18 months for the theft of Class A drugs and six months imprisonment suspended for 18 months for possession of Class A drugs.
The charges relate to the theft of Class A drugs from Crossmaglen Health Centre, where Dr Farrell is a GP.
Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey said: "The Department will not tolerate the theft of dangerous medicines.
"Doctors and everyone in the medical profession have a duty to act responsibly both in their professional conduct and in the care of their patients."
The Department of Health’s enforcement team were responsible for bringing the charges to court.
