The new website is the result of collaborative working between members of the Investing for Health Partnerships across Northern Ireland and the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety.
The Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS) provides a central point from which users may access a large range of statistical information on local issues.
Information is available at a number of geographical levels including: Census Output Areas, Super Output Areas; Electoral Wards; Local Government Districts, Parliamentary Constituencies and Health and Social Services Boards.
A spokesman for the Department of Health said: “The new system will provide free access to information relating to small areas across Northern Ireland.
“It will also provide support for policy makers, monitoring the development of efficient and responsive services.”
Using the Investing for Health Strategy as its starting point, NINIS provides information on the health and well-being indicators that have been identified in the Strategy. These include the goals, objectives and themes such as poverty, education and skills and healthier choices.
It is expected that the new website will be a useful resource for local communities, assisting them to build a picture of the health and wellbeing needs in their local areas.
