29 January 2008 - Department of Health publishes spending plans for 2007/08

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) has published its annual report, the Strategic Resources Framework, highlighting how it plans to spend its 2007/08 budget.

The report highlights how £2.5billion of the Department’s £3.7billion revenue budget will be spent on Health and Social Care and is available to download from the Department’s website. Hard copies will be available upon request.

A spokesperson for DHSSPS said: “The Strategic Resources Framework is an annually published report that highlights where the Department plans to spend its funds. By making these plans available to the public, the Department is showing tax payers where their money will be spent. The Department remains committed to providing clarity and accountability in the use of public funds.

“The report also helps the Department to analyse what services are being delivered at a detailed geographical level. This helps us to ensure that the public get the best services available for money deployed.”

The Strategic Resources Framework 2007/08 shows that Acute Services account for over £1billion of the total planned expenditure by commissioners in 2007/08, an increase of £62.7million on funds last year. This, together with funds to be spent on Elderly Care, accounts for two thirds of the total financial resources covered in the report.
