McGimpsey welcomes Obstetrics and Gynaecology Congress to Northern Ireland
Monday, 21 June 2010Health Minister Michael McGimpsey has welcomed the 32nd British International Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to Belfast.
This is the first time the Congress, organised by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has been held in Northern Ireland.
Michael McGimpsey said: “It is an honour for this prestigious Congress to come to Belfast.
“During the course of this Congress, there will be many opportunities to consider and discuss a range of issues including perinatal, fetal and maternal medicine and fertility, cancer and sexual health.
“This is a tremendous occasion for doctors, nurses, midwives and Allied Health Professionals and students to learn about new developments in obstetrics and gynaecology.”
Dr Michael McBride, the Chief Medical Officer for Northern Ireland also welcomed the delegates to the International Congress. He said: “There are many influential, internationally renowned scientists and clinicians speaking at this three day Congress which will provide delegates with a unique access to expertise and learning in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.”

1. The 32nd British International Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology will run from 20 to 23 June 2010 at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.
2. The Congress is being organised by The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, a UK wide medical professional body. It sets standards for post graduate training, publishes clinical guidelines and supports clinical governance.
