Minister unveils new £16.5million Portadown Health and Care Centre

Health Minister Michael McGimpsey has today unveiled the new Portadown Health and Care Centre.

The £16.5million centre, which will open for business on Monday 29 March 2010, will provide all services available at the existing health centre including the eight GP practices but with additional services including x-ray, orthopaedics, dental and rehabilitation services.

Health Minister, Michael McGimpsey said: "This new centre is very impressive. It will provide the people of Portadown and surrounding areas with services in the community, close to where they live and work.

"Primary care is the cornerstone of our health and social care system in the 21st century and this centre is a practical example of a one-stop-shop approach to primary healthcare. A number of healthcare professional will be brought together under one roof to deliver co-ordinated care to meet the needs of the local community."

Portadown Health and Care Centre won the award for ‘Best Future Design Concept’, at the Rewarding Excellence in Healthcare Design Awards in 2006.

The Minister continued: "I am sure that this new award winning facility will be welcomed by the local community. It is an excellent example of how our modern health and social care service is delivering for the people of Northern Ireland."
