04 May 2007 - Health and Social Services figures published

A report providing details of health and social services spending in Northern Ireland during 2005/06 has been published today.

This is the second time the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) has published the Northern Ireland Health and Personal Social Services (HPSS) expenditure in order to improve the range of information available to the public.

The Summary of HPSS Expenditure has been introduced to improve accountability and understanding among political representatives and the general public about how Boards and Trusts have spent the money they receive from the Department.

In particular, the summary provides an insight into the key health and social care services commissioned. In addition, it shows the costs required to provide these important services.

Notes to Editors:

Media queries to DHSSPS Press Office on 028 9052 0571.

  1. The 2005/06 Summary of Expenditure in NI is available on the DHSSPS website on www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/summaryofhpssexpenditure2005-06.pdf
  2. The Northern Ireland Health and Personal Social Services includes the 19 NI HSS Trusts (that existed in 2005/06) and the 4 HSS Boards.
  3. The preparation of these analyses of financial information cannot begin until the finalisation of the audited accounts for that year. It is hoped to improve timeliness with the faster closing process being implemented for Accounts.
  4. A related publication, The Strategic Resources Framework, which shows planned expenditure for 2006/07, was published in December 2006.
