Attitudes of young people towards domestic violence, 2007 published
Wednesday, 22 October 2008The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety today published Attitudes of Young People towards Domestic Violence, 2007.
The publication presents the findings from the Young Person’s Behaviour and Attitudes Survey 2007.
Key facts and figures
- More young people in school years 11 and 12 think that it is okay for a woman to hit a man than think it is okay for a man to hit a woman.
- More young people think it is okay for someone to hit their partner if they have slept with someone else than if they are nagging or not treating them with respect.
- Boys are more likely than girls to think that it is okay for people to hit their partners.

The data is from Young Person’s Behaviour and Attitudes Survey 2007. The questions in the survey relating to young people’s attitudes towards domestic violence were commissioned by Community Information Branch, Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety and the survey was carried out by Central Survey Unit, Northern Ireland’s Statistics and Research Agency.
