Speaking as he visited the Beeches Resource Centre, Aghalee and Seymour Hill Horticultural Unit, Dunmurry, Mr McGimpsey said that the facilities for the learning disabled there were commendable.
The Minister said: “Improving services for learning disabled people is one of my key priorities. They deserve the same opportunities as able-bodied people to education and to work so that they can live independent lives.
“The two facilities I have visited today are shining examples which show people with a learning disability can gain practical skills and qualifications. People with learning disabilities should be part of our society and I am committed to ensuring that they have every opportunity to do so."
Down Lisburn Carers Forum invited the Minister to visit the two centres and see at first hand the quality of services currently available for leaning disabled people in the area.
