Lisburn father and son fined for waste offences
Thursday, 25 June 2009A Co Antrim father and son were fined at Lisburn Magistrates’ court today for breaches of waste management legislation.
Mr Robert Alexander Johnston (56) and Mr Darryl Johnston (27), both of Halftown Road, Lisburn, were each fined £500 and £22 court costs.
Officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) investigated a site at 75 Halftown Road, Maze, Lisburn owned by Robert Alexander Johnston on 6 March 2008.
Darryl Johnston operated his business, AMG Skips, from the site and a quantity of End of Life Vehicles were found deposited.
Officers also noted a large mound of commercial and household waste on fire. The site did not have a waste management licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles. There was also no licence to keep controlled waste on site.

1. Robert Alexander Johnston pleaded guilty to one charge under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 and was fined £500 under Article 4(1)b with £22 costs. This charge relates to the keeping and treating of a controlled waste without a licence.
Darryl Johnston pleaded guilty to one charge under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 and was fined £500 under Article 4(1)(a) with £22 costs. This charge relates to the deposition of a controlled waste without a licence.
The charges related to the treating, keeping and disposal of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated, kept or disposed of in, or on, any land except under and in accordance with a waste management licence.
2. End of Life Vehicles are defined as vehicles that are categorized as waste.
