Derrylin property developer fined £400 for waste offences
Monday, 8 June 2009A County Fermanagh man was today fined a total of £400 plus £41 court costs, at Enniskillen Magistrates’ court, for breaches of waste management legislation.
Gary Winterson (32) of Main Street, Derrylin, pleaded guilty to two charges of depositing waste and was fined £200 on each charge.
On 21 March 2007, following complaints, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) (formerly the Environment and Heritage Service), discovered an area of waste at a site on Corratistune Road, Derrylin. A further visit on 25 July 2007 disclosed more waste on the site.
Mr Winterson agreed to remove the waste and subsequently cleared up approximately 358 tonnes of waste he had dumped on the site. The waste comprised mostly of excavated material and builders waste from his nearby housing development.
