Rostrevor business man to pay £16,900 for illegal waste offences

A Co Down man was today made the subject of a confiscation order of £16,400 at Newry Crown Court for illegal waste offences.

Fergal McAlinden (53) of Killowen Road, Rostrevor, pleaded guilty to one charge of depositing controlled waste without a licence and was fined £500. The case involved over 7,000 tonnes of waste soil and clay.

The court made the confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 in relation to benefit from his criminal conduct. This has to be paid within 12 months.

1. Mr McAlinden pleaded guilty to one charge under Article 4 of the Waste and Contaminated Land Order (Northern Ireland) 1997:

4(1)(a) i.e. deposited or knowingly caused or knowingly permitted controlled waste to be deposited in or on land without there being in force a waste management licence authorising said deposit.
