Strabane businessman and food company fined a total of £16,000 for waste offences
Thursday, 21 October 2010A Strabane businessman and food company were today fined a total of £16,000 for illegal waste offences at Strabane Magistrates’ Court.
Between March 2009 and August 2009 NIEA officers and staff from Strabane District Council investigated the unauthorised disposal of controlled waste at Moorlough Road Strabane where they observed waste originating from Glen Fresh Foods being burned and stored at lands owned by Mr Sean McShane.
Mr Sean McShane, of Moorlough Road Strabane pleaded guilty and was fined £3,000 under each of two charges under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, namely:
Article 4(1)b, keeping and disposing of controlled waste without a waste management licence; and
Article 4(1)(c ) keeping and disposing of controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution or harm to human health.
At the same court Mr McShane, a director of Glen Fresh Foods Ltd, pleaded guilty on behalf of the company to two charges under the same Articles of the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order. The Company was fined £5,000 for each charge.
