29 November 2007 - Foster chairs local government review meeting

After chairing today’s meeting of the Local Government Taskforce Strategic Leadership Board, Environment Minister Arlene Foster said:

“This was our first opportunity to meet since I published the Executive's Emerging Findings on The Review of Local Government Aspects of the RPA last month. Colleagues on the board took the opportunity to make clear to me the views of local government as a sector and the political parties on the initial proposals. I thank them for their leadership in this important area of work.”

“This meeting was an important part of the process of engaging stakeholders in the review process. I am committed to work in partnership with local government and the other political parties to deliver the much needed reform and modernisation of local government that we all seek.

“I will now explore the very clear views that have been expressed by stakeholders, both in writing and at the five stakeholder events my Department ran in recent weeks so, that I can engage effectively with my colleagues in The Executive as we consider the way forward.”
