D Acheson (Navan Quarries) Ltd Cookstown was fined £1,000 at Armagh Magistrates' Court today for making a discharge of process effluent into a waterway.
On 10 November 2006, an Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) official found that an unnamed tributary of the Blackwater River was heavily contaminated with suspended solids.
Samples confirmed that the effluent from the Quarry was polluting, being approximately 294 times the permitted the limit set by EHS.
