11 August 2008 - Lisnaskea man fined £2,250 for waste offences

William Chambers (58) of Newbridge Road, Drumguiff, Lisnaskea, was fined a total of £2,250 plus £28 costs at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court today after pleading guilty to three breaches of waste management legislation.

During an inspection in January 2004, Environment and Heritage Service (now NI Environment Agency) officers observed controlled waste, including End of Life Vehicles (ELVs), on Mr Chambers’ site. The site did not comply with current legislation to prevent pollution to the environment from waste oils and fluids.

Notes to Editors:

  1. Mr Chambers was fined £750 on each of the three charges.
  2. The charges were brought under Articles 4(1)(a) and (b), of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997: one charge of knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited on land without a waste management licence in force; two charges of keeping controlled waste on land not covered by or in accordance with a waste management licence.
