A Scarva man was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court today for breaches of waste management legislation.
Noel Martin (37), of 28 Terryhoogan Road, Scarva, Craigavon, pleaded guilty to two offences and was fined a total of £5,000.
Environment and Heritage Service officers investigated a site owned by Mr. Martin on 23rd May, 2007 and found controlled wastes in the form of scrap metal, end of life vehicles and parts of vehicles. The site did not have a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles. The officers informed Mr Martin that he needed a license or an exemption to keep controlled waste at the site.
Mr. Martin was fined under Article 4(1)a and Article 4(6) and Article 4(1)b and Article 4(6) of The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. He was fined £5000 and court costs of £43.00.
