Portadown building firm fined £1,500 for waste offences

Bann Ltd, Charlestown Road, Portadown, Co Armagh was fined £500 on each of three charges for breaches of waste legislation at Craigavon Magistrates' Court today.

Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) officers observed controlled waste, including household, construction and demolition waste, being burned at Charlestown Road on 8 April 2006.

Bann Ltd pleaded guilty to the three charges [one each of Articles 4(1) (a), 4(1) (b), and 4(1)c] under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997: one charge of knowingly permitting controlled waste to be deposited on land without a waste management licence in force; one charge of keeping controlled waste on land not covered by or in accordance with a waste management licence; and one of disposing of controlled waste in a manner likely to cause harm to the environment or human health.
