28 February 2008 - Construction company fined £5,000 for illegal waste disposal

Grafton Homes (NI) Ltd was fined £5,000 at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court today after pleading guilty to five offences under the Waste and Contaminated Land Order 1997.

Environmental Crime officers carried out inspections at 14 Dromore Road, Hillsborough, in response to complaints. The site contained construction and demolition waste including bricks, concrete, wood, metals and plastics. The site was unlicensed to accept any waste material.

Grafton Homes (NI) Ltd was charged under two counts Article 4(1)(a) for depositing controlled waste, and three counts under Article 4(1)(b) keeping controlled waste. Each offence attracted a penalty of £1,000 each.
