Co Tyrone company fined for polluting discharge to a waterway
Wednesday, 27 January 2010A Co Tyrone Company was fined £2,500 plus £25 court costs at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court today.
Geotech Construction Ltd, of Shanmaghery Road, Galbally, Dungannon, Co Tyrone was fined for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
On 4 February 2008, a Water Quality Inspector, acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (formerly the Environment and Heritage Service), inspected a tributary of the Ballinderry River at Lurganeden Road, and observed that the waterway appeared to be badly discoloured. The source of the polluting discharge was traced to the Geotech Construction Ltd site at Shanmaghery Road, Co Tyrone.
A sample taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous, noxious and polluting matter which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving watercourse.
