Environment Minister Sammy Wilson today confirmed a temporary exemption scheme for day care nursery transport providers will be in place by the start of the new school year.
Under the scheme, nurseries who apply for exemption certificates will still be able to transport children without the need for Public Service Vehicle licences while a full policy review takes place.
Information packs will be distributed to all Northern Ireland’s registered day care nurseries, explaining how the scheme will work and giving details of how to apply for an exemption certificate.
Mr Wilson said: “I believe that Northern Ireland’s day care nurseries should be able to continue to provide transport services to children and parents while a policy review is carried out.
“To this end, I am providing temporary exemptions for the sector. The policy review will examine fully all the issues faced by courtesy transport providers.”
