Environment Minister invites us all to get hands on with history!

Monday, 18 June 2007

Environment Minister Arlene Foster has invited everyone in Northern Ireland and visitors to experience first hand the past.

The Minister explained: “ A series of living history events will be held at historical sites across Northern Ireland from 16 June to 9 September 2007. The summer long festivities will culminate with European Heritage Open Days on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September. These are an exciting series of entertaining events encouraging people to experience ancient life and culture at the very heart of its origins at some of Northern Ireland’s most stunning historical locations including Hillsborough Fort, the Tully, Dunluce, Enniskillen and Carrickfergus Castles, and Devenish and Inch Abbey.

“We look forward to welcoming people of all ages and walks of life to these special events, where they can step back in time and experience life through the eyes of their ancestors.”

On Devenish, visitors will be greeted by monks (Early Christian Celtic and Augustinian) who will offer an insight into their daily lives at this island monastic site. The monks will visit every Saturday and Sunday from 16 June until 9 September, 12noon-4pm.

All events held on EHS sites are free of charge and further details are available on the EHS website link to external website.
