02 May 2007 - Kilrea business fined for waste offences

Apperly and McAtamney Butchers Ltd of 6–8 Bridge Street, Kilrea, was fined £500 plus court costs at Limavady Magistrate court today for a waste offence.

Environment and Heritage Service (EHS) officers had observed large deposits of controlled waste including soil and mounds of construction and demolition waste present at a site off the Edenmore Road, Bovally, Limavady, on 31 October 2005.

There was no waste management authorisation in place for this site.

Apperly and McAtamney Butchers Ltd was charged under the Waste and Contaminated Land Order (NI) 1997 Article 4(1)(a) for depositing controlled waste and knowingly causing controlled waste to be deposited in or on land without there being in force a waste management licence authorising said deposit contrary to Article 4(1)(a) on 31st October 2005.
