Foster welcomes verdict in assets recovery case
Tuesday, 6 November 2007Environment Minister Arlene Foster has welcomed today's Crown Court Confiscation Order totalling over £250,000 against a Clogher farmer convicted of keeping and disposing of illegal waste, in a case brought by the Assets Recovery Agency.
The Minister said: "The DOE's Environment & Heritage Service (EHS) had previously brought a successful case against John McKenna for waste offences last year. That case resulted in a twelve month jail sentence.
"In addition, EHS has worked closely with the Assets Recovery Agency in the action which has concluded today's successful criminal prosecution. This shows that there is no hiding place for those who would flout waste laws. The relevant authorities will pursue them and will not hesitate to combine resources when appropriate to ensure they reap the consequences."
