Mr William Gilpin, trading as Gilproduce, Mullalelish Road, Richhill, Co. Armagh, was today fined £3,000 at Armagh Magistrates' Court for a pollution offence.
The court heard that during a routine inspection carried out by an officer from the Environment and Heritage Service on 5 May 2006, a tributary of the Ballybay River near Richhill was found to be polluted.
The source of this pollution was traced to the nearby premises of Gilproduce, where it was found that polluting effluent was escaping and running down a field to a nearby drain. Samples were taken and analysis of these samples confirmed that the discharge escaping from the site was very polluting.
Mr William Gilpin, trading as Gilproduce, pleaded guilty in court.
