Tandregee compost company fined £2,000 for pollution

Friday, 19 October 2007

Mr Thomas McKew, trading as Tandragee Compost, Cabragh Road, Tandragee, Co. Armagh, was today fined £2,000 at Armagh Magistrates' Court for a pollution offence.

The prosecution followed a water pollution incident on 8 June 2006, which was discovered by an officer from the Environment and Heritage Service. The pollution was traced to the nearby premises of Tandragee Compost, where effluent was found to be escaping from a catchment tank. Later analysis of samples taken from the site showed that this effluent was very polluting.

Mr Thomas McKew, trading as Tandragee Compost, pleaded guilty in court.
