22 September 2008 - Fermangh man fined £500 for waste offences

An Irvinestown garage owner was fined £500 plus £19 court costs today for breaches of waste management legislation.

Frankie Goan (56) of Moynaghan North, Irvinestown was fined at Enniskillen Magistrates’ court.

Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) officers investigated his site at this address in December 2007 and found a substantial quantity of controlled wastes, mostly in the form of end of life vehicles and parts of end of life vehicles. Evidence of burning of waste was also noted and parts of the site were contaminated with oil. The site did not have a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles. The owner was unable to produce waste transfer notes for the legal removal of oil, tyres or batteries.

Mr Goan pleaded guilty to one waste charge under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
