Ballynahinch car breaker fined £900 for waste offences
Monday, 7 September 2009William Pentland (49) of Edgegrove Park, Ballynahinch was today fined £900 plus court costs of £16 at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court for breaches of waste management legislation.
On 17 September 2008 officers of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency investigated a site at 42 Rockschapel Road, Crossgar, operated by Mr Pentland, where a substantial quantity of controlled wastes in the form of end of life vehicles and parts of end of life vehicles was deposited.
The site did not have a waste management licence or a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles.

1. Mr Pentland pleaded guilty on one waste charge under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. The charges related to the treating, keeping and disposal of controlled waste, or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting controlled waste to be treated, kept or disposed of in or on any land except under and in accordance with a waste management licence.
2. End of Life Vehicles are defined as vehicles that are categorised as waste. Waste is defined as anything that you discard, intend to discard or are required to discard.
