Minister discusses roads safety with Driving Instructors
Monday, 21 September 2009Environment Minister, Edwin Poots, today met with members of the Driving Instructor’s National Association Council (DINAC) to discuss improving roads safety measures.
At the meeting the Minister listened to their views on a range of key issues impacting the industry and how they can contribute to the development of road safety policy on driver training and testing.
The Minister said: “It is through co-operation between Training Professionals, Enforcement Agencies and the Department that we will effect change in attitudes and improvements in driving standards. I welcome the opportunity to speak with DINAC about the need for legislative change to assist their industry in contributing to the overall objective of reducing the number of killed and seriously injured on the roads in Northern Ireland.
"The suggestions raised by the instructors will be given due and careful consideration in developing future driver training, testing and road safety policies. I am encouraged by the enthusiasm which the Association has shown to embrace the challenges that face all.”
DINAC was established in April 2008 and is made up of 10 Approved Driving Instructors associations from all regions of Northern Ireland.
