Chairman of the Port and Harbour Commissioners in Derry reappointed

Thursday, 4 February 2010

Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy announced today the reappointment of Garvan O’Doherty as Chairman of the Port and Harbour Commissioners in Derry.

This is for a period of a further four years, effective from 8 February 2010.

The Minister said: "I welcome the reappointment of Garvan O’Doherty as Chairman of the Harbour Commissioners for a period of four more years. In his capacity as Chairman since March 2006, he has heightened the profile of the port in the Derry area. He has also guided the port through a period of rapid growth in trade, establishing the facility at Lisahally as an important logistics and distribution hub, especially in respect of fuel, for the north west of Ireland.

"His business skill and acumen is a great asset to the work of the Harbour Commissioners. I anticipate that over the next four years he will continue to lead the port in Derry through these challenging economic times."
