The latest edition of the Northern Ireland Road and Rail Transport Statistics, containing statistics for April to June 2007, is now available. The publication is produced by the Central Statistics and Research Branch (CSRB) of the Department for Regional Development and contains information on vehicle registrations, use of public transport, deliveries of petrol and diesel for use in Northern Ireland and driver and vehicle tests. Key Points
The key points for the April to June 2007 quarter are:
- There were 18,531 new cars registered during the quarter.
- Vauxhall was the most popular make of new car during April to June 2007, accounting for 13% (2,341) of all new cars registered.
- Of the 1,028 heavy goods vehicles registered for the first time in Northern Ireland, 62% (640) were previously used vehicles.
- There were 18.52 million public bus passenger journeys made during the quarter
- Weekly average rail passenger miles have increased by 10% to 3.29 million from 3.00 million since the corresponding quarter of 2006. During the same time period, weekly average rail passenger receipts have risen by 10% to £0.46 million from £0.42 million.
- From April to June 2007, 201,173 tonnes of petroleum were delivered for use in Northern Ireland. This represents an increase of 3% on the tonnage delivered during the corresponding quarter in 2006.
- Over the period July 2006 to June 2007, the pass rate for car ‘L’ driver tests was 52% males and 42% for females in Northern Ireland.
