27 February 2008 - Minister visits Wrightbus

Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy MP, MLA today visited Wrightbus in Ballymena.

The Minister said: “I have recently returned from the Netherlands where I viewed a number of Rapid Transit schemes in operation along with a vehicle manufacturer. It was good to have the opportunity today to visit Wrightbus to view their new innovative products which are at the forefront of public transport development.”

During his visit the Minister was given a tour of the Wrightbus production facilities. He viewed the production line of the StreetCar Rapid Transit Vehicle and saw the advances being made in the development of hybrid technology.

Before visiting Wrightbus the Minister went to Ballymena Academy to attend a Question and Answer session with the Economics Society at the school.

  1. The Minister visited the Netherlands from 20-22 February 2008. On this visit he viewed bus based and light rail rapid transit systems operating in Amsterdam and bus based systems in Utrecht and Eindhoven. He also visited the production facilities for Phileas near Eindhoven.
