Councillors Patrick Convery and Danny Lavery of Belfast City Council have been appointed to the Belfast Harbour Commissioners.
Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, welcomed the appointments and said: “The appointment of Councillor Convery and Councillor Lavery, who join Belfast City Councillors David Browne and David Rodway on the Board of Belfast Harbour Commissioners, allows the electorate of Belfast to continue to have an important voice on the board of the Harbour Commissioners.”
The Minister added: “I wish to thank the outgoing members, Councillors Tom Hartley and Alban Maginness, who both made a valuable contribution to the work of the board and I wish them well for the future.”

- Belfast Harbour Commissioners are responsible for the improvement, maintenance and management of the Port of Belfast and for the facilities within it. Board members currently receive remuneration of £9,945 per annum.
- Under the Belfast Harbour Order (NI) 2002 the Board of Belfast Harbour Commissioners consists of not less than 10 and not more than 15 members. A maximum of 4 Commissioners shall be members of Belfast City Council.
- Councillors Hartley and Maginness stepped down from the board in July 2008.
- Councillor Patrick Convery was nominated by Belfast City Council to replace Mr Maginness. A member of the Social and Democratic Labour Party, he was elected to represent the Castle electoral area of Belfast City Council in May 2005. As a member of Belfast City Council he also sits on various bodies including the Belfast Education and Library Board and the North Belfast Partnership Board. He is a member of various committees on the council including the Parks and Leisure Committee and the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee.
- Councillor Danny Lavery was nominated by Belfast City Council to replace Mr Hartley. A member of Sinn Féin, he was elected to represent the Oldpark electoral area of Belfast City Council in May 2005. As a member of Belfast City Council he also sits on various bodies including the Belfast Education and Library Board and the Titanic Quarter Working Group. He is a member of various committees on the council including the Town Planning Committee as Chairman and the Strategic Policy and Resources Committee.
