The new outbound bus lane becomes operational on Monday 7 April 2008 and will give priority to buses between North Parade and the roundabout at the Ravenhill Road between 3.30pm – 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
Welcoming the introduction of the new bus lane, Minister Murphy said: “Each new measure that supports our bus services helps to promote public transport as an attractive alternative to travel by private car.
"The bus lane is the latest addition to the Saintfield Road Quality Bus Corridor and will benefit the increasing number of bus travellers on this road who will now save journey time."
The lane will be available to buses, motorcycles, bicycles and Belfast public hire taxis. It is clearly marked with white lines and the associated signs.
Notes to Editors:
- The bus lane will benefit approximately 20 scheduled buses per hour including Metro 7 route and Ulsterbus services to Newcastle, Ballynahinch and Downpatrick.
- This is the latest addition to Belfast’s existing network of 35 km of bus lane.
