12 August 2007 - Closure of Collinbridge and M2 motorway

The M2 and the Collinbridge Road were closed yesterday after a spell of prolonged heavy rain damaged a wall beside the motorway.

Emergency squads responded immediately to carry out reinstatement works and after an initial inspection the city bound carriageway of the motorway was re-opened on Saturday night. The squads worked through the night to complete the works and the motorway was fully reopened early on Sunday morning.

Reconstruction works is currently underway on The Collinbridge over the M2 Motorway in Glengormley. Heavy rain yesterday caused a partial collapse of a sheet pile wall adjacent to the motorway.

The Collinbridge Road remains closed to vehicular traffic and will remain closed until repair works are completed. Pedestrians can however still use the Collinbridge to access Collinbridge Estate.

Vehicular access to and from Collinbridge Estate is via the Antrim Road, Hightown Road, Hightown Park, Hightown Gardens and Hightown Rise. Emergency services have been advised. Highway Management Construction are currently notifying residents of the Collinbridge Estate.

HMC wish to apologise to the general public and in particular the residents of the Collinbridge Estate. HMC wish to assure the public that every effort will be made to reopen the bridge as soon as possible.
