Nelson Street and Great Georges Street, Belfast - Major resurfacing works

Thursday, 27 August 2009

Major resurfacing of Nelson Street and Great Georges Street will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend 28 – 30 August 2009.

Road closures will be in place from 21.00hrs on Friday 28 August to 20.00hrs on Sunday 30 August.  A partial road closure will also be required for York Street Link during this period but this will be removed from 09.00hrs on Saturday 29 August  to 0600 hours on Sunday 30 August.

As the closures will affect the M2 and M3 Motorways, local traffic travelling to the Westlink/ M1 and M3/ Bangor bound traffic from the Westlink will experience delays.

Diversionary routes will be signed during the period of the works.

Speaking about the works Colin Brown, Network Maintenance Manager for Roads Service Eastern Division said: The works are being undertaken to improve the safety and structural integrity of the road. Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and the traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public. However due to the volume of traffic using these roads some delays will be inevitable. Roads Service apologises for any inconvenience however it is impossible to complete resurfacing works like this without some disruption.”

Whilst every reasonable effort will be made to progress the works as quickly and efficiently as possible, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
