25 July 2007 - Resurfacing of A20 Upper Newtownards Road

Roads Service will begin a £240,000 resurfacing scheme on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road this weekend.

The scheme is to strengthen the 0.75 km stretch of road from 100 metres east of Robbs Road through the Dundonald Village to East Link Road and improve its skidding resistance.

The main bulk of the works will be carried out on four consecutive Sundays: 29 July, 5 August, 12 August and 19 August 2007. During the weekdays between these Sundays some more localised road works will be required.

For safety reasons on each of the Sundays it will be necessary to reduce the Upper Newtownards Road to one operational lane for Newtownards bound traffic.

Belfast bound traffic will be diverted by Robbs Road / Church Road / Grahamsbridge Road / Comber Road.

A carefully programmed works operation and traffic management measures should minimise inconvenience to residents, local businesses and the travelling public. However, due to the heavy volume of traffic on this arterial route some unavoidable delays and disruptions will occur during the works.

At certain times as work progresses it will also be necessary to close Dunlady Road, Cherryhill Road, Ballyregan Road and Church Road. Diversionary route signing will be in place to assist the travelling public.
