06 June 2007 - M1/Westlink update

Motorists should leave extra time for their journeys due to ongoing roadworks on the M1/Westlink, coupled with the start of the Clonard Novena.

M1/M2/Westlink

Roads Service and HMC (contractors for M1/Westlink scheme) would remind motorists of the ongoing roadworks on the M1, M2 and Westlink. Traffic lanes are narrower than normal and these roads are subject to a reduced speed limit. Motorists can expect delays on the M1, M2 and Westlink and should allow extra time for their journeys. Two traffic lanes will be available in each direction through the M1/Westlink roadworks between 6am and 10pm.

Clonard Novena

The Clonard Novena starts on Wednesday 13 June and runs through to 21 June and it will generate additional traffic on the M1 and Westlink, as people access the west of the city. People attending the Novena from the M1 motorway should leave at Broadway junction, while those travelling from the M2 should leave Westlink at Divis Street junction and travel along the Falls Road, as it is currently not possible to turn right at Grosvenor Road junction.

People attending the Novena should plan their journey and allow extra time, particularly in the morning and evening peaks.

Royal Group of Hospitals and Belfast City Hospital

Access to the Royal Group of Hospitals (RGH) and Belfast City Hospital will remain unchanged. Motorists travelling from the M2 to the RGH should leave Westlink at Divis Street and follow the signs to the RGH or continue on Westlink to Broadway and access the RGH from this junction.
