The scheme will commence on 18 June and last for 10 weeks. The majority of the works will be undertaken during July and August when schools are closed and when traffic levels are at their lowest.
Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to traffic by restricting works at peak hours, and through suitable traffic diversions. However, there will be delays to traffic and journeys should be planned accordingly, making use of alternative routes where possible.
During the initial stages of the scheme Belfast bound traffic will be diverted via the Drumahoe Road. During other periods it will be necessary to operate single file traffic. It is intended to limit the effects on traffic by minimising the length of road affected at any time.
Road closures will also be necessary at key stages in the works, with citybound traffic being diverted via Eglinton and the Clooney Road and countrybound traffic diverted via the Ardmore Road. However, these diversions will be in place overnight to midday on Sunday mornings only.
Advance notice of road closures will be published in the local press and advertised on radio stations and on the Roads Service website at www.roadsni.gov.uk. Additionally variable message signing will be in use throughout the period of the contract to give information to drivers.
Firmus Energy are currently laying new gas mains in advance of the resurfacing works.
Roads Service regrets the inconvenience these necessary works will cause to the travelling public and any disruption that may occur.
