The Minister said: “I welcome this opportunity to tour the extended Maintenance Repair Depot and I thank everyone for all their hard work in completing this project. The completion of significant work here has allowed NIR to increase its capacity to accommodate further new trains and Enterprise vehicles. In addition, this extensive improvement project will provide a better and more efficient working environment for NIR staff.”
The minister is committed to investing in public transport and to encouraging commuters and other travellers to use public transport. Over the next three years the Department for Regional Development is providing £137million of funding towards rail projects including the purchase of more new trains and improvements to the rail infrastructure. Commenting on this the minister added: “The completion of this work is further evidence of my commitment to improve public transport here by investment in order to encourage commuters and other travellers to use public transport for their journeys instead of the private car.”
Presenting Translink’s IT Services and Rail Engineering Teams with Investors in People certificates, and the Rail Engineering team an ISO 9001 Certification, the minister said: “I take this opportunity to commend the significant commitment and hard work by both teams in achieving their awards. The awards demonstrate Translink’s commitment in developing employees and equipping them with the right knowledge, skills and motivation to work efficiently.”
